Beacon Hill Interior Designer

Beacon Hill is one of Boston's most distinctive neighborhoods, and its homes ask for a particular kind of design approach. Historic architecture, original details, unusual floor plans, and the constraints of working within an established neighborhood all require careful thought.

Nubuor Designs is a Beacon Hill-based interior design studio specializing in thoughtful renovations and furnishings for homes throughout Boston and New England.

Interior Design for Beacon Hill Homes

Beacon Hill's homes carry real architectural history, and that history is worth taking seriously. But taking it seriously doesn't mean every project ends in the same direction. Some homeowners want the original character brought forward and cared for. Others want that same historic shell to hold something more contemporary, clean lines and modern furnishings set against original millwork and marble.

Our Deco Garden project explores the first path in depth, a Beacon Hill townhouse reimagined through a full gut renovation that kept the character worth keeping while rethinking how the home actually works.

Designing in Boston's Historic Homes

We approach historic homes with a simple goal: preserve what makes the house special while making it work beautifully for the people living there today.

That can mean rethinking a floor plan, designing a kitchen around an existing architectural framework, restoring rather than replacing original details, or introducing contemporary furnishings and lighting that bring new energy to an older interior.

The best renovations don't make a historic house feel new. They make it feel like the best version of itself.

Deco Garden →

Our Deco Garden project is a comprehensive gut renovation of a historic Beacon Hill townhouse for a growing family.

The project required more than selecting beautiful finishes. We rethought the floor plan, spatial relationships, materials, lighting, furnishings, and details throughout the home, creating a cohesive interior while respecting the building's architectural character.

The project reflects the way we approach historic renovations more broadly: understand the building first, then make thoughtful decisions about what to preserve, what to change, and how the home should function for contemporary life.

Working With the Whole Project Team

Historic renovations often involve architects, contractors, engineers, and preservation professionals alongside the interior designer. We work closely with the full team so that architectural decisions, construction, materials, and interiors remain aligned from the earliest planning stages through installation.

If you're considering a renovation in Beacon Hill, we can help you think through the possibilities before construction begins and guide the interior design process through completion.

“I have been fortunate to work with Margaret while designing our new home. She is both extremely creative while also being pragmatic and an absolute pleasure to work with!! We have future renovation plans and she was able to design spaces and choose furniture that will still work for us in post-renovation. She made the entire process fun and easy! She is extremely organized and doesn’t forget any details. I’m so grateful for her help and support. Our home turned out beautifully and I cannot wait to work with her again in the future when we renovate!!”
