This renovation transforms the second floor of a 150-year-old Victorian in Lexington, solving layout challenges while preserving the home's historic charm.
The existing floor plan wasn't working: a cramped primary bathroom with an awkward layout, an inefficient closet with dated cabinetry, and a powder room that no longer served this family's needs. Our solution reconfigured the entire floor.
The result: a second floor balancing sophisticated design with the realities of family life. Where marble and monkeys coexist beautifully.

The Primary Suite
We swapped the primary bathroom and closet locations, giving each space better proportions, and offering more privacy. The new bathroom features a custom walnut double vanity with Calcatta marble, a private water closet, and a steam shower with built-in bench. A custom checkered marble floor in feels both timeless and fresh. Inset paneled mirrors bounce light throughout, polished brass fixtures add warmth, and a heated towel rack waits outside the shower.
The reimagined closet trades square footage for smarter design. Tall windows flood the space with natural light, preventing any cramped feeling despite the smaller footprint. Custom painted cabinetry offer a multitude of storage options while mirrored cabinet doors provide mutiple functions. To add softeness, we added a textured white wallpaper on the ceiling, and sheer blue fabric peeks behind select glass doors.
The Kids' Bath: A Jack and Jill
We carved 12 inches from each adjoining bedroom and repurposed a defunct powder room to create a proper jack and jill bath. The vanity room features a painted double vanity with durable quartz countertops, generous storage, and playful monkey wallpaper. A two-tone striped tile layout adds graphic interest to the wet room, and heated floors make winter mornings more bearable.
